Minister: Rev Dr Craig Thompson

Craig ThompsonThe Rev Dr Craig Thompson BSc DipEd BD(Hons) DTheol began his ministry at Auburn in January 2005.

Craig was ordained in 1999, after completing studies in science, education and theology at the University of Melbourne and the United Faculty of Theology, and a brief period as a science teacher at a suburban high school. Between 1996 and 1999 he undertook post-graduate studies, including some work in London.

Craig’s ministry experience includes a year’s lay supply ministry in each of Lakes Entrance and Violet Town, and five years’ ministry with the Narre Warren North and Hampton Park Uniting Church congregations. His current appointment involves spending 50% of his time with the Auburn congregation, and 50% with the Kew (Highbury Grove) congregation.

Craig has a strong interest in the task of proclamation and the leadership of worship, and in particular in the discovery through that medium of the impact of the gospel today. Corresponding to this emphasis on preaching he has an interest in teaching complementary to the task of proclamation. He understands his ministry to be a contribution to the development of a particular type of community, steeped in the story of the work of the God of Israel in the world, and exhibiting in itself the significance of that story for human existence today.
